Here’s the real story behind “What People Forget”

Hi everyone!

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, prosperous, joyous, and peaceful 2025!

I’m still recovering from the “Season of Cheer.” I’m a bit of a Scrooge when it comes to the Christmas season, but I loved seeing family and friends. Having a new 6-month-old in the family brought a smile to everyone’s face.

My goal is to release the next song in my acoustic series on social media by the end of January—but you’ll be the first to know! In the meantime, if you haven’t had a chance to listen to the first acoustic song, “What People Forget” on YouTube, please take a moment to check it out.

Even though it’s a bit depressing, I thought I’d share the story behind the song:

After my very serious, long-standing relationship ended, with no contact for several years, I ran into my ex at the dry cleaners, of all places. We had a pleasant, superficial chat filled with “How’s your mom?” “Where are you living?” and “What are you doing now?” type of questions. With a peck on the cheek and polite smiles, we wished each other well.

I got into my car and started driving home when I suddenly pulled to the side of the road and wept uncontrollably. It wasn’t that I wished we were still together or that I had regrets. What I was feeling was: How do you go from expecting to spend your entire life with someone to having a casual, polite conversation at the dry cleaners?

I needed an outlet for all this sadness and angst, so I went home and started writing this song.

And on that cheery note, be well, be kind, feed your creative soul, live in the moment as much as possible, spend time with people you care about—and Happy New Year!
